Documentation of the Historic Sites of New Brunswick
Styles: Traditional Chinese Painting Works by Ink and Wash
Objects: Historic Sites of New Brunswick
Objectives of Exhibition
The province of New Brunswick was one of the first places where immigrants settled in the “New World”. It still retains a lot of historic sites from the earliest explorers who had dreams and came to this new continent. Through this exhibition I intend to record the remaining historic sites primarily located in New Brunswick using the classic Chinese painting approach, ink and wash skills. These traditional Chinese painting methods have been used for over 1000 years.
Classic Chinese painting is very descriptive – with a minimum of colour it attempts to capture the spirit of the subject being painted. It is my intention to interpret, from the perspective of a new immigrant, what time and social changes have wrought upon these compelling sites and historical structures.
The exhibition is to not only reproduce the traces of the early explorers to this continent using the Chinese painting approach but also try to interpret the soul feeling from a new immigrant’s eye to these historic settlements.
To read my painting works and understand the stories, you do not need to know the Chinese painting language and do not need to know Chinese characters. What you need is calmness and to walk with me into the places that you are familiar with, and then you will be awakened from the soul travelling deep within your memories……….
This exhibition is an expression of my appreciation of the beauty and natural perfection of the landscape that surrounds us; it is an appreciation that is dedicated to those early explorers who left us so many brilliant stories and cherished folklore. It is my hope that you will re-discover your own appreciation of the rich heritage and natural beauty that surrounds us all – here in the province that we call home.
