Fund Raising Benefit Dinner in support of Miao and Jerry Yu’s family

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Further to my earlier emails dated on May 7th and May 20th, 2009, I wish to update you that Miao’s mother, Mrs. Ya-Zhi Wang, is recovering well at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax. On behalf of the family, I wish to thank you very much for your moral and monetary support so far. Your friendship to the family is gratefully acknowledged.

In-cooperation with the Mariner Partners Inc. which Jerry (son-in-law of the patient) works, over the last several weeks, the newly formed Board of Directors of the Chinese Cultural Association of Saint John (CCASJ) has been working hard to help and support the family. I am happy to let you know that a Fund Raising Benefit Dinner is set for June 25, Thursday, starting at 6:30pm at the Centre Samuel-de-Champlain school, 67 Ragged Point Rd. The Fund Raising Benefit Dinner includes Chinese buffet, cultural performance and silent auction. All proceeds will go to payment towards Mrs. Wang’s hospital bills. Tickets are $30/person. You can buy tickets at the Great Wall Supermarket, Suite 10 229 Churchill Blv. or Fu Dor Dor, 73 King Street.

Securing food donation for the Chinese buffet part of the Fund Raising Benefit Dinner is in progress. Here we would like to call for donation of arts and collectibles for the silent auction. If you wish to donate, please email xuanwang8@hotmail.com. Articles can be dropped off beforehand at Mariner Partners located at the Red Tea Building, 12 Smythe Street (contact: 654-2119) or two hours before the Fund Raising Benefit Dinner on the day (June 25, Thursday) at the Centre Samuel-de-Champlain school, 67 Ragged Point Rd.

As well, we need volunteer helps for various tasks, such as donating cooked food (desert, cake and fruit trays are mostly needed), pick up food from local Chinese restaurants on the day, setup and clean up before, during and after the event. If you can be one of the volunteers, please contact jhan2008@gmail.com. Jason Han will coordinate the volunteer effort.

A cash donation box will be set at the Fund Raising Benefit Dinner site. I urge you to open your heart and donate what you can to support the family. I wish to inform you due to narrow restrictions of the CCASJ charity status, and we were recently informed that the CCASJ is unable to issue tax receipts. We regret that the inaccurate information was previous communicated to you and apologize for any confusion this may cause.

Thank you very much in advance. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Li-Hong Xu

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Cultural Association of Saint John
